The courageous honesty of the prose conveyed this painful story in a way that was poetic and hopeful. I couldn't put this book down, and when I was done, I missed spending time with the narrator.
Being half-Sicilian, I wanted to punish the people who had wronged her. The author's strength and grace are a true inspiration.

Having read a few of these Amazon reviews while I was still mid-way in Monica's book spoiled the "big reveal" if you want to call it that And while I was tempted to give her 4-stars for the somewhat-misleading title although "misleading" seems a little harsh , this, in fact, is NOT a story of a girl growing up in and around a funeral home which, given my macabre fascination, is what I was expecting.
She's human. She makes some REALLY poor choices growing up especially when it comes to her love life and, for these reasons alone, as a guy, I felt empathy for her and, often, laughed out loud at her funny moments. She has wit. She has candor. She's vulnerable.
